Just got around to watching this film last night. Nobody does "Lovable Loser" like William H. Macy. Thanks for recommending it. A nice way to spend an evening, especially now that all of my favorite TV shows have wrapped up their seasons.
It's a role he has nailed time and time again.
If you watched through the special comments, Macy wasn't very excited about the idea of the role until he read through the script and found out who the rest of the cast was. He felt he was getting typecast LOL.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I find it's a great example of how to do a conventional film right.
I saw this on a 19 hour flight to Singapore (along with about 4 other movies) and thought it was great. Yvonne hit the nail on the head...William Macy is indeed a lovable loser.
Agreed. He's just so charming in this role. The movie couldn't have worked at all with any one else playing Bernie.
So, for some reason I thought I had seen all of your episodes and I completely missed this one. (MYMHM You May Have Missed where we discuss episodes of MYMHM that You may have missed). I saw this movie a long time ago and it just made me sad in that uncomfortable heavy way. WHM is amazing though.. in EVERYTHING.
LOL! You HAVE seen all of our episodes WonKa!
This will go down as our "lost" episode. We just couldn't get the video to play well, and it got all kinds of fubar. Oh well. You live you learn (and you stick to your weekly production schedule).
I still think this is a perfect example of how to tell a convention story in a really fresh and charming way. WHM kills it.
Thanks for the comment!
I think I'll start with my first comment on the "lost" episode.
This was good, and different from what I expected. I liked the full-circle effect: Macy starts the film burnt out on the way Vegas (and life) has shit on him, then gets almost annoyingly chipper, then...well, no spoilers. Pretty conventional but worth watching.
