Just a fix to a minor mistake in this episode:
[rec] was shot in 2006, while Quarantine was shot in 2007-8, so the Americans were the ones to duplicate the film because of subtitles - the Spanish people dub anything anyway, so it wouldn't have been an issue for them.
Anyway, even though I didn't like the movie so much, I did think it's the first first-person shooter - sorry - horror in terms of shooting...
Ugh...
I think we redeem ourselves by talking about subtitles later, but I DID totally fubar the order they were made at the beginning didn't I...
BTW, I totally guessed wrong on this movie... wow.
Must start out with a few words... Do not watch in a dark room! :)
This is the first movie based on your review i actively searched for and watched. Seen Night of the Living Dead and Primer before. Both were excellent! But not talking about those here :) My heart did skip a beat at the cuteness of the female reporter... *sighs* Loved the "Docu" style of the beginning, and the "realism" of the first encounter. As movie goers, we know about the rules of zombie encounters, but never truly expect to encounter them in real life. So the realism of their reactions to seeing the first "person", and the panic of what happens next... Awesome writing! Also, with them puzzling over what is causing the "outbreak", was very much based on the "realism" the movie was trying to go for... May watch this again soon... Because, still not completely sure it is as simple as zombies. The twist at the end, could be just another persons assumption.
Over all, it was written, acted and edited superbly! Everyone was believable from the reporter, the families and especially the old couple.
Was a great review, and an awesome suggestion to watch it! Thank you :)
Oh! Forgot to add to last post... Love the show! And as posted on the "Fido" page, will be actively checking netflix for the other reviewed movies! :)
Rock ON Dangershoes!
I totally agree btw. I saw this by melself in the morning with the blinds open, tons of sun light pouring in, and I still got twitchy LOL.
Having now seen Quarantine, I have to say I really liked how much more raw and unpolished [REC] is. I think that helps put me right in the middle of whats going on, versus Quarantine, where I felt like I was watching a movie (a good movie, bu tI was still kinda arms length).
Thanks for the comment!
Funny note, even while editing our episode for this, I kept scanning across the slow turn camera "moment" late in the film. KNOWING its coming...and having scanned for it and readied myself, I still jump almost every time. Watched Quarantine a few days ago, and gotta say I really prefer [.REC]. Its just not the same without my little journalistic special-lady-friend.
Shared this one with the family, scared the crap out-a all of them. Great find!
Brutal Bryon. I think I would emotionally scar my folks for life LOL...
Gots a zombie lovin' fam.
So the little boy at the end still doesn't make sense to me...
No KIDDING!
I've seen a TON of different theories as to who the little boy is.
I still haven't seen a good explanation, but it is one of the MOST effective jump scares I've EVER seen. Maybe because it makes NO SENSE AT ALL!
Whew! I'm glad I took your advice and watched this during the day.
Tell me about it.
Windows open, sunlight pouring in, and I was still jumping around like crazy...
